We are honoured to bring together wines from South Africa, The United Kingdom, Washington State and France for this unprecedented Jubilee week. Creativity is a watchword for Sporting Wine Club, and to find six wines that can all reflect the spirit and times of our great Queen Elizabeth II is a real privilege. We hope you enjoy the narratives as well as these jubilee wines.
1 x Elizabeth Chardonnay 2019: Ex- NFL New England Patriots quarterback Drew Bledsoe named this super-premium wine in honour of a much-loved family member and it hails from one of his vineyards in Walla Walla Valley, WA, USA. Described as texturally rich and with a brightness and zest which is long-lasting, this seems an ideal description for our equally loved monarch and forms the flagship of the Jubilee package.
1 x Yotes Court On The Nod Bacchus 2020: An English Bacchus hailing from Yotes Court vineyard, Mereworth, Kent. Owner, Susannah Ricci, has been involved in National Hunt Racing since 2005 with her husband Richard. The majority of her horses are trained by Champion Trainer Willie Mullins and have been ridden by Ruby Walsh, his famous green and pink silks driving the wine branding. Her horses have won all around the circuit, including Royal Ascot.
1 x Jean Roi Rosé 2020: The King of Rosés! This premium rosé is made in the same dry style as the iconic rosé wines of Provence. This is from Riebeeksrivier farm situated on the slopes of the Kasteelberg, over-looking the Swartland towards iconic Table Mountain. And let us tell you, this King is destined to seize the rosé throne that has been long occupied by its French Provencal cousins. The sporting heritage derives from rugby and golf, in the name of Johann Rupert.
1 x Welbedacht Patriot: Ex Springbok Schalk Burger’s Patriot is rightly heralded as one of his flagship, iconic red blends. The label design proudly displays the colours of St George, and with flavours fit for a raucous, medieval banquet, we are all patriots at heart. What a wine we have here to pair with your roast beef on the Sunday of the Jubilee weekend.
1 x Moulin d’Issan 2019: In 1182, on May 18th, Château d’Issan wines were served at the wedding of Henry Plantagenet, future King of England and the glamorous Eleanor of Aquitaine. Need one say more for the regal history of this stunning classic from Bordeaux which was then part of England! Jacky Lorenzetti, President and owner of Racing 92, now co-owns the D’Issan estate alongside Emmanuel Cruse, whose family have long held the keys to this amazing estate.. It’s Merlot/Cabernet blend is truly fit for the table of kings and Queens.
1 x Doddie’5 Red Blend: Doddie Weir OBE is the Scottish sporting superstar behind this beautiful red wine made by Schalk Burger where all profits go to his Motor Neuron Disease charity, My Name5 Doddie Foundation. It is worth remembering that her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is in fact Queen of the United Kingdom. God save the Queen!

1 x Elizabeth Chardonnay 2019: Green apple, loads of fresh cut pear, lemon rind and the slightest hint of whipped cream are exploding from the glass—very pretty and entrancing aromatically. There is a fantastic balance in this wine—while they focus on acid retention and being acid driven, there is great richness and an elegance. We are tremendously happy with this new Elizabeth Chardonnay!
1 x Yotes Court On The Nod Bacchus 2020: The Bacchus grape is to the UK what Sauvignon Blanc is to Marlborough. The wine has a delicate floral nose of honeysuckle, lilac and ripe orchard fruits yielding to a zesty citrus intensity on the palate and a stone fruit finish.
1 x Jean Roi Rosé 2020: Pale coral hues allude to the delicate, refreshing purity of this dry rosé. Mineral, wet stone, and floral undertones support the fresh apple, yellow peach, and apricot aromas on the nose. The palate is lively and bright. A delicious wine, perfect for summer and al fresco dining.
1 x Welbedacht Patriot: This vintage has really come along over the years. It has a lovely tawny colour and throws some sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Still fairly tannic, the flavour profile of cloves and leather spice are rich and undulating.
1 x Moulin d’Issan 2019: Moulin d’Issan 2019 shows an expressive and crunchy red fruit character with a deep colour. The finish is very well-balanced, ended with fine tannins.
1 x Doddie’5 Red Blend: Schalk Burger & Sons and Sporting Wine Club are proud to work with Doddie Weir OBE to deliver this magnificent blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Mourvèdre and Petit Verdot, representing Bordeaux’s 5 red cultivars.
